I may have given the impression that my NYC trip was all about the candy. It wasn’t. The primary purpose of the trip was to see The Addams Family and cross it off my 35 Before 35 list.
They’re creepy and they’re kooky, mysterious, and spooky….

This pic would be so much cooler if I hadn't cut off the "Starring Brooke Shields" part of the sign.
When we got to the theater, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that Brooke Shields was playing Morticia. I’ve seen a lot of shows on Broadway but never with someone famous in it.
The show itself was…ok. Parts of it were hilarious. The actors who played Gomez and Lurch were amazing. The set was interesting, but I was a little disappointed in the technical side of the show.
With a spooky house like that, I was hoping for amazing special effects. That said, I’m a little biased. I’d be totally happy with a musical that had an awful storyline as long as the music and special effects were good.
What musicals have you seen? What show should I see next?

I have always wanted to see a Broadway show, on Broadway. I have seen plenty local, including RENT 3 times at 3 different venues. If you have never seen it, go if you can. Spectacular.
I also saw Waiting for Godot in London last year with Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen. I wish I could say I enjoyed it. They are seriously amazing actors, but the play left me feeling kind of meh. Maybe it is just too deep for my shallow brain? (I just realized you said MUSICAL and not play, oops!).
And if it makes you feel better, I can sort of see the starring Brooke Shields part right at the bottom!

I want to see Rent. I’ve only see the movie.

I used to watch this show all the time (my maiden name is Adams and I soooo wished that my mom had named me Wednesday). I had no idea that they turned it into a musical. With Brooke Shields nonetheless.
I’ve only ever seen Cats when they came to Atlanta a looooonnng time ago.
October 21st, 2011 at 6:35 am
I’ve never seen Cats. I’m not sure how that’s possible since it played forever.

Is the Addams Family theme used in the show? Because if it’s not, then I’d want my money back.
October 21st, 2011 at 6:36 am
It was! Everyone in the audience started snapping in the overture.

Jealous! The last show I saw was “Jersey Boys” and I loved it. I’d see it again and I recommend it to everyone!

We get the 45th touring company of a lot of productions in our little hamlet- sometimes we go just for the kitsch value of the cast- we’ve seen Molly Ringwald in Sweet Charity, Georgette in the Drowsy Chaperone and were in the 3rd row when a young fan flashed ted Neeley in Jesus Christ Superstar?! Ah, the plays the thing!
October 21st, 2011 at 6:36 am
I love musicals!
October 20th, 2011 at 9:46 am
Hmmm, I’m need to come up with an excuse to go to New York.
October 21st, 2011 at 6:37 am
I think the play counts as an excuse.

The only musical I’ve ever gone to see was “Westside” and it was fabulous…don’t know why I’ve never fit it in to see another one.
October 21st, 2011 at 6:37 am
I’ve only seen the movie for that as well. I’d love to see the show.

I grew up going to Broadway shows, so I’m lucky there. I really want to see “Rent” since I’ve seen the movie and have the soundtrack. I just want to sing along to embarrass the husband. Is that wrong. You should see “Wicked.” That’s a great great show. Hot Joe and I saw it and it was his first show and he LOVED it and wanted to go again. I told him he should really see something different for his second show.

Sooooo…I’m not going to tell you I’ve seen Wicked 3 times on Broadway….
I had the same problem with Kiefer. Wicked was the first musical we saw and he wanted to go see it again.
October 20th, 2011 at 10:47 am
That’s too cool that Brooke Shields was starring in it! I’ve only seen one… Wicked. It’s the untold story of the witches of Oz. I definitely recommend it – the set was amazing, storyline great and had a good bit of comedy which I love. It set the bar real high for anything else I see!
October 21st, 2011 at 6:39 am
I’m pretty sure Wicked is the best musical I’ve seen lately. It may even be better than Phantom.
October 20th, 2011 at 12:22 pm
The last musical I saw was last year in a small venue of community players in “Rocky Horror Picture Show”. I enjoyed it. Even though no one famous was in it, they rocked it with interaction with the audience (I do believe some were planted purposely to get the rest of us riled up) and their singing.
Brooke Shields as Morticia…..not seeing it, but kudos to her for the part.
Sounds like you had a great time though.

Was it a performance where the actors do it while the movie is playing? I’ve been to one of those. It was really fun!
October 20th, 2011 at 8:28 pm
My first ever musical was Beauty and the Beast, and it was amazing! I was hooked. More recently I saw Rent, and cats, and 42nd street.. I kind of hated 42nd street but the others were super awesome.
Thumbs up for fun holiday activities!!
October 21st, 2011 at 6:41 am
I saw Beauty and the Beast a long time ago. It was cute!
October 20th, 2011 at 10:50 pm
No musicals here. Wasn’t Brooke Shields in a show with David Spade? If so, I think I liked that show. If not, she should have been.
October 21st, 2011 at 6:42 am
No musicals? You need to take your kids to see The Lion King.
October 20th, 2011 at 11:34 pm
I only ever saw 1 musical when i was younger – Phantom of the Opera. It was really good. It had decent special effects and a deranged serial killer to boot!
October 21st, 2011 at 6:41 am
Phantom is awesome…I’ve seen it three times!
October 22nd, 2011 at 5:20 pm
Sweeney Todd was reallyyyy good. Les Miserables is also classic, but I must confess I was bored…
October 24th, 2011 at 9:12 am
Les Mis is all about the music, I think. Not much spectacle.

Ba.D. hates this about me, but I’ve seen very few non-Disney musicals. I love Fiddler on the Roof, but–apart from a few school-assigned shows back in the day–Wicked is the only one I’ve seen live.
I did recently watching Singing in the Rain on DVD. That was a treat, so I’m trying to slowly welcome more musicals into my life.
October 23rd, 2011 at 12:59 pm
Hm… I’ve seen: Wicked, The Phantom of the Opera, Beauty and the Beast (x2), Cabaret, Young Frankenstein, Rent, We Will Rock You, Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Guys and Dolls (x2), Seussical the Musical, Dreamgirls, Annie, West Side Story, Little House on the Prairie, the Sound of Music, South Pacific, Little Shop of Horrors (x2), um… That’s all that I can think of right now. I’ve seen them either locally or in Toronto (it’s Canada’s version of Boadway) I recommend you see Young Frankenstein!
October 24th, 2011 at 9:13 am
Wow, your list may be longer than mine!
October 23rd, 2011 at 7:42 pm
Mr T is the musical freak ( yes I’m totally outting him on your blog ) so he’d be the one to ask. Ya know what? You should ask him! And tell him I sent you
*he has actually worked a few musicals and knows quite a bit about them*
ahem
October 24th, 2011 at 9:14 am
Who’da thunk it?
October 24th, 2011 at 10:14 am
Wicked three times? I am so jealous! Love that show.
