The other day I dragged a coworker with me to Yogi Castle…on my lunch break. I swear it’s not an addiction. I can stop any time I want.
My yogurt was covered in chocolate and candy. My coworker’s (let’s call him Todd Ddot) yogurt was covered in fruit…no chocolate. ::Gasp!::
Ddot broke Rule #1.
Rule #1: The healthy toppings should never outweigh the yogurt.
Ddot was my inspiration for Rule #2.
Rule #2: Never add fruit to yogurt. (This makes Rule #1 null and void.)
The other day Kiefer started adding strawberries to his yogurt, and I immediately started to scold him.
Me: You’re breaking Rule #2! I don’t even know who you are anymore….
Kiefer: Is that strawberry syrup on yours?
Me: Like there are any real strawberries in that syrup. Stay away from me. I don’t even want to be seen with you…. Wait…you’re still paying for me, right?
So Kiefer and I compromised and added Rule #3.
Rule #3: There must be more chocolate than fruit on your yogurt.
Rule #3 is like a loophole for you weird people who like a cherry on top. Kiefer has been kind enough to provide examples for you.
As you can see here, Kiefer started to eat Exhibit A before I could snap a pic. We’re not holding that against him though since he made the fruit sacrifice.
Although Kiefer added strawberries, the brownie bites, chocolate syrup, and chocolate yogurt make up for the fruit.
Once again, Kiefer added strawberries. I’m trying to not gag overlook that those strawberries are on mint yogurt. Ewwww….
Anyways, the point is that the M&Ms, chocolate chips, chocolate syrup, and mini-caramel turtles definitely outnumber the strawberries.

Ddot and Kiefer are not good yogurt buddies…you on the other hand are! I need my trips with a friend whose yogurt I can look at and back at my own and not feel guilt, just pure delight!
January 26th, 2012 at 9:14 am
I am that yogurt buddy. =)
January 24th, 2012 at 8:43 am
You could totally write a food Bible
January 26th, 2012 at 9:14 am
I should! At least the 10 commandments.
January 24th, 2012 at 8:51 am
I am a strawberry-er. Love fresh strawberries on ice cream (yogurt)! Although, I would still probably put some chocolate syrup, or at least caramel. Does caramel count?
By the way, can you go back to talking about cantaloupe or something? These recent posts are absolutely killing me (yogurt/chocolate, cookie dough, candy, etc.). I am trying to diet over here! Jeesh.
January 26th, 2012 at 9:15 am
Caramel counts. I love caramel.
I am about to switch back to nasty foods next week. That should help.
January 24th, 2012 at 8:55 am
I’ve just recently discovered yogurt, and you get partial credit for that. I’m gonna have to work up to these very merry-looking toppings.
January 26th, 2012 at 9:16 am
I think you should just dive in and put as many toppings on as the cup will hold.
January 24th, 2012 at 9:11 am
Looks yummy. I haven’t had breakfast and it looks like a great breakfast.
January 26th, 2012 at 9:16 am
I think if you’re eating frozen yogurt for breakfast, you’re allowed to add fruit.
January 24th, 2012 at 10:14 am
The yogurt should be thought of as mortar to hold the candy together during spoon to face delivery. Fruit is dangerous. What if it has a pit? There could be injuries. Avoid that at all costs.
January 26th, 2012 at 9:16 am
Mortar! I love it!
January 24th, 2012 at 10:20 am
I always find myself in a pickle when going to get the yo’. I used to get fruity toppings with the original tart flavor..then I quickly found the dark side and got the most sugar laden vanilla-ey flavored yogurt with candy up the ass.
January 26th, 2012 at 9:17 am
Welcome to the dark side. We have cookies, too, if you get tired of frozen yogurt.
January 24th, 2012 at 10:32 am
Is Ddot aware that the chocolate police patrol yogurt hangouts, and if insufficient amounts of chocolate are being consumed by the patrons, the whole place can be shut down? Is he aware that he could stop the world from turning like that?
January 26th, 2012 at 9:18 am
You’re right. Ddot is totally messing up the space time continuum.
January 24th, 2012 at 10:39 am
These are really helpful rules. I really want to fit in the next time I’m at the yogurt shop. Thanks for your educative post, thoughtsy!
January 26th, 2012 at 9:19 am
Glad to help. Soooo..when are you going next? Like now? Cause I could go for some yogurt right now.
January 24th, 2012 at 11:18 am
Ugh, mint yogurt with strawberries……
If that’s the case….smother it in chocolate to hide the taste of the strawberries. I mean mint and chocolate obviously go together, and strawberries and chocolate go together but in this case. the chocolate has to be 5 to 1.
January 26th, 2012 at 9:19 am
Maybe even 6 to 1 just to be safe.
January 24th, 2012 at 11:40 am
Strawberries on mint yogurt? Oh no, oh nooooo.
The only time I’ll eat fruit with frozen yogurt is when I’m at Costco. Their mixed berry parfait is incredible. Tastes like it has a million calories.
January 26th, 2012 at 9:19 am
Costco does have some yummy food.
January 24th, 2012 at 11:44 am
Every so often you should have a yogurt with fruit, just to make sure you still properly appreciate the yogurt with chocolate.
Or just forget the yogurt and go straight for ice cream.
January 26th, 2012 at 9:20 am
Good point. I’ll add a cherry to my chocolate covered yogurt next time.
January 24th, 2012 at 12:34 pm
EW!
Select one or the other…mixing is just nasty. YUK!

Yeah I’m a strong believer that some food just shouldn’t touch.
January 24th, 2012 at 1:28 pm
There used to be a marvelous store in SF where they actually dipped your pieces of fruit in dark chocolate and gave it to you. They were both perfect fruit pieces and high quality chocolate. It was the stuff of dreams. I walked long distances to get those treats!
January 26th, 2012 at 9:21 am
I love strawberries dipped in chocolate. Cherries, too.
January 24th, 2012 at 2:00 pm
Strawberries with mint?! I don’t know about that…
I just told my husband earlier today that I want an Edible Arrangement for Valentine’s Day, LOL I do love me some chocolate-covered fruit, especially bananas. Which means I’m old. (Told you.)
January 26th, 2012 at 9:21 am
Those Edible Arrangments are super yummy!
January 24th, 2012 at 6:24 pm
I’m not a huge fan of mint. For some reason, it turns my stomach. There are only a few ways that I like mint and with strawberries isn’t one of them. Fruit is great in frozen yogurt as long as there is a ton of chocolate too. Rule #3 is a good one.
January 26th, 2012 at 9:22 am
Since you’re allergic to chocolate, this means a lot coming from you.
January 24th, 2012 at 8:13 pm
Baha, I’m definitely in the cherry on top group. It makes my yogurt seem “special” somehow.
January 26th, 2012 at 9:22 am
I want to feel special. Maybe I’ll try it out.
January 24th, 2012 at 10:27 pm
There is a yogurt place downstairs from my job. Down.stairs. In all my time of working there, I’ve never had fruit on my yogurt. I’m pretty sure this cements our continued e-friendship.
I’m all about chocolate chips.
January 26th, 2012 at 9:23 am
Are there any openings where you work?
January 25th, 2012 at 1:29 am
Dude! I so thought of you when I had 5 of my Girl Scouts at my house for a Cookie-Kick-Off Slumber party. We made sundaes and you would have been SO proud of their topping to ice cream ratio! I tried to take a picture for you but they scarfed it down too quickly. Only 1 girl added fruit to hers, but we were nice and did not freeze her underwear after she fell asleep.
January 26th, 2012 at 9:24 am
Wait…you know Girl Scouts? How could you keep this from me? I need cookies. Lots and lots of cookies.
January 26th, 2012 at 11:17 am
I am so sorry I failed to mention the fact that my DAUGHTER is a Girl Scout and I am a GS leader! AND……I will GLADLY ship you all the cookies you need
January 25th, 2012 at 10:23 am
Hmm…I skipped the yogurt and just went with the chocolate…and cherries. But the cherries were in the center–not on the top. I think that makes it acceptable. Maybe. A little? There is no such thing as too much chocolate….ever.
January 26th, 2012 at 9:25 am
Totally acceptable. You’re in the clear.
January 25th, 2012 at 11:08 am
I just don’t know about the compromise. I just don’t think fruit has any place on the yogurt. I sincerely wish I had a yogurt shop nearby. I guess I’ll just have to keep making do with my Frostys.
PS. The cheeseburger soup was delicious. The kids have demanded it be placed in the regular meal rotation!
January 25th, 2012 at 12:46 pm
I don’t care what any of Y’all say. I love fruit on frozen yogurt. Maybe I should make up my own “Topping Rules.”
January 25th, 2012 at 5:12 pm
I can see why your name is Thoughtsy. You have really thought a lot about frozen yogurt and it’s toppings. You’re going to start getting invited on TV shows as an expert, soon.
January 25th, 2012 at 8:39 pm
I would do anything for some yogurt right now. I have to admit I’ve never ventured out with the toppings much, though. I’ll make sure to try something new next time…with plenty of chocolate.
February 8th, 2012 at 7:11 am
I might or might not have mentioned your love of frozen yogurt (and Pop Tarts in today’s entry. If I did in fact mention you, that is.
