I’d like to take this opportunity to make some of you feel old. I’m sorry.
Take comfort in the fact that some youngin’ will respond to this post with a comment like this: “Who?” And then I’ll feel old. Damn you, Karma.
I never watched the original Muppets movie. Because I wasn’t born yet. The only muppets I knew were the Muppet Babies…and any Muppet appearances on Sesame Street.
To me, Jim Henson = Dark Crystal.
Over the weekend, Kiefer, Boo, Radley, and I watched The Muppets. Here’s what I learned:
- It’s not illegal to kidnap Jack Black.
- If you’re the bad guy, you don’t have to laugh maniacally. You can just say, “Maniacal laugh!”
- You can’t drive from the United States to Paris because it’s too far…unless you travel by map.
- The first greatest gift is children.
- The second greatest gift is ice cream.
- The third greatest gift is laughter.
- Kermit is a member of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Most importantly, I learned something about Kiefer. He knows the words to the Muppet theme song. Whoa.

I’m sorry, but I never liked the muppet babies. But then, I am old enough that I’ve seen the original Muppet Movie – lots and lots of times.

If I’m a Muppet, then I’m a very manly Muppet.

Nice lyric recall!

I just finished my Pop-Tart, lol.
Good memories of the Muppets! Grinning over the ice cream. I can hear the soundtrack from the old movies in my head right now. Still hilarious after all these years, you know?

What flavor Pop-Tart? Don’t leave me hanging!

I watched the Muppet Show on television. During its original run.
Makes being older worthwhile.

Never cared for the Muppet Babies. Then again, I was much older when they came out. But when they first came out, they were cool.
Now society has painted them as practically dysfunctional. Jim Henson would be rolling in his grave if he knew what labels they’ve given his beloved puppets.

The Muppets were on prime time when I was growing up. Damn! I feel old now.

I loved the old Muppet Show on TV. I used to record the audio from every Swedish Chef sketch on my handheld cassette recorder (because no one had VCRs yet). And I STILL can’t repeat his intro song, because it changed every time. (Except for the “Bork Bork Bork” part.)
If you don’t know what I’m talking about, you can look for Swedish Chef videos on YouTube.

YouTube here I come!

Mega mega Muppets fan. I’m the cozy age where i watched the original Muppet show when I was really young and then watched Muppet Babies at the tail end of my pre-teen childhood. Adult Muppets trump Muppet Babies, but Muppet Babies are better than no Muppets at all. This is a scientific fact.

Kiefer knows the words to the Muppet’s theme song? I think this is a sign you should be very afraid, lol!

I’ve witnessed your ability to pick up on a Hanson song in a crowded diner. Surviving that trauma took the sting out of this Muppet news.
I hate to bring algebra into this, but the first greatest gift = the third greatest gift, which is probably what makes it the first greatest gift!
July 25th, 2012 at 7:44 am
Hanson? What’s that? I admit to nothing! Deny, deny, deny!

The. Muppets. I love this post. I knew Kermit was part of a gang of some sort, he smiles too much to not be up to something.
Aww! Muppet babies are cute, but in a really creepy way…like if a muppet baby was waddling towards me in a dark alley in a bad part of town, I might not react the way you should react to a baby in a dark alley.
Maniacal laugh!

What?! I’m old? Pffft. I don’t believe in babies, Muppet or otherwise. What about the Muppet tv show? I LOVE the tv show, it *is* tv worth watching.

I’ve never seen it. I guess I’ll have to check it out! Thanks for stopping by!

Also grew up on Muppet Babies. I think I owe my love of all things pop culture to the Muppet Babies & Tiny Toons. Loved the new movie. Check out my review http://amandalovesmovies.com/2012/04/04/the-muppets

I loved Tiny Toons, too!

I’d love to leave you a Wild Berry Pop Tart, but I can never find ‘em …anyways, yes it’s true it’s not illegal to kidnap JB, it’s just bloody difficult these days.
July 25th, 2012 at 7:49 am
Mmm…wild berry….

Hear, hear! I also grew up with Muppet Babies. And, YES, ice cream sure is one of life’s greatest gifts! Bless you, Ben and Jerry!

Hey I just noticed you have over 1,000 followers! CONGRATS, Thoughtsy! May I suggest you celebrate with flavored vodka, and more flavored vodka? (L at “Trying Not to Be Fat” just explained how to make vodka-soaked gummy bears, which is actually quite intuitive. I feel like maybe you’ve done that here, too? Why does it sound familiar?)
Peg’s comment is priceless, and I LOVED the new(ish) Muppets movie. “Maniacal laugh” – yesss. I should start saying that when I’m wearing my ‘stache glasses.

I did drown some gummy bears in vodka. Gummy-flavored vodka of course. =)
