Esme is still adjusting to Ozzy.
Days 1-5: Esme hides under the bed. She comes out only in extreme potty litter box emergencies. My little chunky monkey kitty dropped a few pounds from being too scared to eat.
Days 6-7: Esme begins cautiously exiting the bedroom and approaching Ozzy puppy. She runs away when he gets too close.
Days 8-10: Esme stands her ground when Ozzy approaches. He can’t chase her if she doesn’t run away.
Day 11: Esme hisses and bats at Ozzy.
Day 10: Esme realizes she inadvertently taught the puppy to bat at her.
Day 12-15: Esme just lays down when Ozzy tries to play with her, and he loses interest.
Day 16-62: Ozzy switches tactics and tries to jump on Esme. Esme resorts to the left-right-left-right paw bat.

Ozzy: What the heck does “Say Cheese!” mean?
Esme: Amateur…. Don’t look at the bright light. You won’t be able to see for the next 30 seconds and you’ll step on my tail. Oh wait…you do that anyways.
Day 67, 9:08:29 AM: Esme and Ozzy live in harmony. They’re just about to touch noses when…
Day 67, 9:08:31 AM: Pet friendship over.

[Last line, as Rick and Captain Louis Renault walk off.]
Rick: Louis, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

Love it, love it! This made me laugh as Nikita is getting used to having Bella around!

He is wearing her down, slowly, but surely. They will be life-long pals before ya know it. Or Ozzy will eat her. Lol.

Who needs tv? You’ve got the “Odd Couple” right in your own home!
October 2nd, 2012 at 8:14 am
Meh. Esme’s just playing hard to get. Can’t just give in to the friendship right away. Otherwise, all the dogs would think she’s too easy.

Poor Esme.

Hee hee. Please keep me posted. I seriously live for this stuff.
Ozzy is ADORABLE.

It takes time but I’m sure these two will be the best of friends – or the best of frenemies

I love watching my pups play with the kitty, except when they bark loudly and chase her somewhere because she breathed to the left. She grooms the pups, too, and I think she’s sad when I take them for a runstreak and she has to stay home. Picture me running with two dogs and a kitty on leashes.

I wish Esme would walk on a leash. I have one for her, but she doesn’t really walk.
October 3rd, 2012 at 3:49 am
Aww I’m sure they will be BFF’s soon!
October 3rd, 2012 at 7:27 am
Aw, at least she’s no longer cowering in fear. That would make me sad.

Too funny

They’re doing well. It took Twiggy two years to figure out that if she didn’t run, Shasta wouldn’t chase. Lily, on the other hand, let Shasta know who was boss the moment she moved in.

Oh, look at that arched back! She’s not taking this lying down, for sure. So much better than TV.
October 4th, 2012 at 4:56 pm
you really love your pets.. thats so cool.
October 4th, 2012 at 11:56 pm
Next they’ll get into a massive and messy fight and fur will fly, and after that they’ll ignore each other for a bit. Then, just when you think it’s hopeless and they’re never going to get along, you’ll find them curled up together somewhere sleeping.
October 6th, 2012 at 10:07 pm
This was just the beginning. Before you know it, they’ll be living in harmony for three seconds at a time, or even four.
October 9th, 2012 at 9:00 am
Hopefully one day they’ll make it to 5 seconds. Hopefully.

Sounds like a typical day in the Silva household! We are taking care of a stray puppy right now, and I swear to you, our cat Samuel is ready to pack his bags. In fact, just the other day, he gave me a letter stating that he is moving out in 30 days if the canine hasn’t vacated the premises, and he will be suing us for damages… can you believe that?!
October 9th, 2012 at 9:00 am
BWAHAHAHA! That Samuel….
How nice of you to take in a stray pups!
